VIZ Media has announced a year-long celebration of the Naruto series, dubbed “Year of Naruto” via its official blog today. This is to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary, which released its first manga chapter on October 4th, 1999.

VIZ states that the Year of Naruto will kick off at New York Comic Con 2019, where they will debut limited-edition merch including an official skateboard deck and a hand-numbered poster featuring the stages of Naruto’s evolution as a character – all the way from fledgling ninja to becoming hokage. New York Comic Con 2019 takes place from October 3rd to October 6th.

The celebration will continue into 2020, with the company stating that they have many projects in the works to celebrate the beloved series. These include video games, pop-up events, panel discussions, special live programming, and even an array collabs with top global lifestyle brands. No specifics as to when any of these projects will release/when they’ll take place, but we can expect to hear more information about the how the celebration will kick off as we get closer to NYCC, as stated in a tweet.
