Daily NOtaku News Round-Up – 01/07/2018

Hello! And welcome, to another Daily Round-Up. There was once again not much news, however, there are definitely some highlights to talk about, and we’ve done our best to round-up everything.

Let’s begin with the otaku side of things.

It has been announced that Violet Evergarden, the TV anime that premiered back in January, will be receiving a movie. The movie will hit Japan in January 2020. The movie was previously teased as a “new project in process”, however until now we had no confirmation as to what the project was. Violet Evergarden is without a doubt one of the prettiest animes ever created, especially for TV, so here’s hoping that a movie with a higher budget than the TV series will be even prettier. It has also been confirmed that an “Extra Episode” will be packaged with the series’ final home video release in Japan.

Speaking of movies, here’s some good news for Yuri!!! on Ice fans. A whole slew of information has been released regarding the movie that was announced last year. The information was released at the “Yuri!!! on Concert” event that took place earlier today, after the official Twitter account for the series teased that there would be a “major announcement” regarding the upcoming film. The movie is slated for a 2019 release date, and is called “Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence”. A key visual was also released.

It was also announced that many major staff members that worked on the original anime would be returning to work on the movie.

Comico has officially announced that they are ending serialization of the “Recovery of an MMO Junkie” manga. This is due to serious health concerns surrounding the mangaka, Rin Kokuyo. The manga has been on hiatus since July 2015, and unfortunately, it seems Kokuyo’s condition hasn’t improved since then. The manga received an anime adaptation last year, and the possibility of a second season now seems unlikely.

An anime adaptation for “Re:Stage!”, the multimedia project about idol singers in middle school has been green-lit, as announced at the “Re:Stage! Prism☆LIVE!! ~2nd Stage~ Ready for Dream” event. While not many details were given, the project team said that they would release more info later. The story will revolve around Mana Shikimiya (voiced by Amane Makino), a first-year in middle school, as she sets her sights on winning at the “Prism Stage” – a competition to decide the best middle school idol.

Bandai Namco Pictures has begun streaming a commercial for Gintama: Silver Soul Arc, which previews the new opening “I Wanna Be…”. The opening is performed by SPYAIR. The music group “CHICO with Honeyworks” will perform the new ending song.

The anime begins airing on July 8th, adapting the “climax” of the Silver Soul arc – Gintama’s final arc.

A new key visual has been released for the Net Anime adaptation of “Today’s Menu for Emiya Family”.

The tagline reads: “Making food, everyone’s smiling faces”. The show began airing on February 1st, with new episodes coming out on the first of each month.

Our final piece of otaku news is also somewhat related to Nintendo. Gran Torino and Muscular have been confirmed as playable characters in the upcoming “My Hero: One’s Justice” – the fighting game based-off the hugely popular My Hero Academia. The game is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and (most importantly) Nintendo Switch, later this year.

And now, on to Nintendo!

But Pichu can’t learn Headbutt!

Nintendo has confirmed that all the veterans that are returning to the Smash Bros. Roster in Ultimate will be receiving the amiibo treatment. So, this means we’ll be seeing amiibo for fighters like Pichu, Young Link, and Wolf. Echo Fighters such as Daisy will also be receiving amiibo, too. It will be interesting to see if Echo Fighter amiibos pick-up different tactics as opposed to the character they are based on.

The new map “Albacore Hotel” has been added to Splatoon 2 in the newest update today.

Four new weapons have also been added, including a new Brella, Slosher Machine, and Scope.

In an interview with Game Informer, Reggie Fils-Aime (president of Nintendo of America) has stated that Metroid Prime 4 is “proceeding well”. While this definitely is not the update we want, it’s nice to hear that the game is still in development and making good progress. In the same interview, he also said that Yoshi is “still in development”. He also spoke about how the 3DS is still a “key part of business”.

NIS America has temporarily removed the free DLC for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on Switch. This is due to a glitch that causes the game to freeze on the “Checking DLC” screen, leaving players unable to play the game. NIS America has confirmed they are working on a patch, which will be released as soon as possible.

And that’s everything that happened today, in Nintendo and otaku-related news. As always, if we missed anything or got any information wrong, let us know!

Thank you for reading!
